Or, the lazy author of this blog, decided to actually write something…
I must admit that all in all, and after spending more than a month in Greece, during July-August, I didn’t find anything disturbing. At least to remember of, thus not significant. Of course this does not mean that it’s all good. I just had a great time!
July
- Ancient Olympia is a very interesting destination, that unfortunately doesn’t yet offer anything more than it’s rich heritage. And I must stress that even this is falling back. The Olympic Games museum, located in the town, is at least EMBARRASSING! The visitor comes across a poor setup, and signs of abandonment which reminds more of a high school fair than a museum.
- The greater region of Ilia is still marked from the fires of 2007. The view is depressing beyond any comprehension. So sad…
- A quick dive in freezing cold waters of Lousios river on a hot July day is highly refreshing. I totally recommend it!
- Summer nights in Athens, on a balcony with friends, with lots of meze and cold drinks full of talk and laughter. That’s SIMPLY THE BEST and that’s what I will always miss from my hometown!
August
- Antiparos is lovely but a bit overrated if you ask me (La luna, opening at 4 am is a must indeed!).
- My KTEL experience at Paros was at least unfortunate, primarily because of people’s attitude towards foreigners (and not only drunken youngsters).
- I didn’t make it to any play in Epidaurus this time
. - Once again Greece was bbq-ed and then lead to national elections. My comment in 2007 still stands, as if nothing has changed, which hasn’t. The only difference is that this time there were no casualties; maybe I guess I should be happy and thankful!
- My sailing experience in the Dutch sea (undefined color
) was pleasant. However, I would only repeat something like this only in Greek waters and during the Greek summer; Dutch summer is more of a joke, and please don’t get me wrong, but the rain, the cold temperature (anything below 30 during August is simply unacceptable)! - Saw Coldplay at the Olympic stadium of Stockholm, and it was all, yellow…
- Late August, friends of mine informed me of my favorite band’s split up. Oasis are no longer; sad!
September
- A new kid on the block is around; a good friend of mine gave birth! Getting older I guess…
- Let’s accept the fact that this generation of Spanish basketball players constitutes a team superior to the Greek and move on!
