2007 TOP COUNTRY BRAND RANKING

2007 TOP COUNTRY BRAND RANKING

The index is issued by Futurebrand, a global brand consultancy. Not too bad for Greece, however, if one takes a closer look on the additional rankings for 2007, interesting remarks can be made. Greece appears to be in the top 10 of only two categories; History and Art & Culture. It’s rather obvious both categories are part of our heritage, thus, we didn’t have to do much on their promotion (these babies speak for themselves :P ). Most barbarians are aware of them through their education (promotion for free forever? :P ). The rest categories require work and effort, today, and that might be an indicator that we may not be doing as well in tourism as we thought we were.

Ancient greeks as a best practice

Motivated by two posts in my friend’s Themis’ blog on Greek education (post in Greek) and on fear of failure, I just wanted to refer to a book i recently read and which I found closely related to the issues that Themis is raising. The book is titled “Who killed Homer?” by John Heath and Victor Davis Hanson and stresses out the deviation of today’s classical studies from the true ancient Greek spirit. The book was published back in 2001 but the questions raised and the examples offered can be found everywhere day.

Greek pioneers strike again!

Takis, a friend of mine, shared an interesting story with me and I would like to share it as well. Recently, he started his own IT company in Athens, Greece called imapps and obviously he’s out hunting deals with any possible customer. So, the other day he visited a car dealer in order to discuss a potential cooperation through his company’s projects www.auto-trader.gr. To his surprise he heard the dealer preaching that Greeks are not ready for using the internet to look for cars. This guy is still doing business (with this mentality, not for long I guess). Thank you for the story Takis, keep sharing because I’m sure you will come across to many interesting ones from this rare kind of people, the Greek business pioneers.
