A new student literature website has emerged on the Swedish Internet landscape. Student Bay (currently only in Swedish) could challenge academic publishing in the same way as Pirate Bay took on the music industry. Motivated by two posts in my friend’s Themis’ blog on Greek education (post in Greek) and on fear of failure, I just wanted to refer to a book i recently read and which I found closely related to the issues that Themis is raising. The book is titled “Who killed Homer?” by John Heath and Victor Davis Hanson and stresses out the deviation of today’s classical studies from the true ancient Greek spirit. The book was published back in 2001 but the questions raised and the examples offered can be found everywhere day.
