Five Guys Burgers and Fries

“Sell a really good, juicy burger on a fresh bun. Make perfect French fries. Don’t cut corners. That’s been the business plan since Jerry Murrell and his sons opened their first burger joint in 1986. When they began selling franchises in 2002, the family had just five stores in northern Virginia. Today, there are 570 stores across the U.S. and Canada, with 2009 sales of $483 million. Overseeing the opening of about four new restaurants a week, the Murrells are proof that flipping burgers doesn’t have to be a dead-end job.”

Good job but it’s food, so here’s my verdict; business is business but in simple words, they have by far THE tastier burger I have ever tried! That’s all that matters at the end of the day!

San Diego

San Diego Zoo

San Diego Zoo

During the last days of March I visited San Diego, CA and just like in most of my trips after a few weeks pass, I put together a list of my comments, ideas, views, etc. on my travel.

  • Security check upon arrival at the airport has been amazingly smooth this time (in LAX).
  • L.A. is huuuuuuuuge (no one expects me to tell them) and driving around is fun but with no map it’s even more exciting!
  • People definitely don’t follow the speed limits. At least not on the highway.
  • Driving a Toyota Prius has been a pleasure both for me driving and my wallet; gas consumption.
  • Price of gas: ridiculous!
  • Driving along the coast (1) from San Diego to L.A. is  very beautiful (now I wanna do it all the way to San Francisco :P ).
  • Parking downtown San Diego is freaking expensive, let alone parking services charge pretty much anything they want, changing daily and most of the times giving me a hard time paying by credit card.
  • Excellent food (thanks Erik for the tips); details on restaurants, hotels, attractions can be found on my dopplr profile.
  • Once again, people are polite and willing to help you with a smile (that’s on the streets). But even in stores I prefer the fake politeness established among salespeople which is almost repulsing, rather than natural rudeness coming out of my Greek experience or vivid but polite indifference (always with a smile on) of the Swedes.
  • Amazing Mexican food :P .
  • Sunscreen is needed; Sweden has taken away my natural Greek sun resistance and I got a sun burn right on the first day. Not good!
  • The zoo is totally worth it (I’m not a big fan of zoos).
  • Really nice people walking down Gaslamp, very lively part of the city.
  • Borders, good service, bad service.Ordered a book which was supposed to arrive within 24h and got stack somewhere in Kentucky for 4 days; never made it. They apologized and paid me back right away. Bittersweet, I really wanted that book!
  • Visited a Walmart for the first time; no comment…
